K, I don’t usually mention or promote other peoples’ events, or events I have absolutely no attachment to whatsoever, but this one makes me laugh.
While not a new promotion technique, this is pretty new for the local jungle scene.
Check this:
Pretty clever, eh?
While your at it, check out this promo mix from Mr. Brown. Somewhere, Mr. Brown has a review of a mixtape that I wrote many moons ago when I was doing tape reviews for Tribe Magazine. He reminds me every now and then that I tore that tape to shreads…
This mix is pretty good.

Here’s a song that lifts the spirits:
Big shouts to Skool Of Thought. Still dreaming of the day I can bring him back to Toronto.

According to his website, super-jungle-drummer KJ Sawka has joined electronic mega-force Pendulum!
From His Site:
Pendulum edge even closer to super-group status with the news that world renowned electronic drummer Kevin Sawka – better known as KJ SAWKA – has joined the band. Sawka has already contributed to the recording of Pendulum’s eagerly anticipated third album “Immersion” and will be introduced to UK audiences when he joins the band’s May tour that features a landmark show at London’s Wembley Arena.
Hailing from Seattle, Sawka was initially drawn to electronic music by the sounds of Dieselboy, LTJ Bukem and Roni Size. His first breakthrough came with the cult all-improvisatory avant-garde drum ‘n’ bass trio Siamese who toured North America in 2002-2003 with shows ranging from support slots with LTJ Bukem and MC Conrad to a performance at the New Orleans Jazzfest. His recent career has included rapturously received solo shows, tours with BT and the development of the innovate iPhone app DrumBanger.
Never heard of him? Check this:
There are a lot of absolute muppets in this business. Lots of people that lie to your face, talk shit and hate on you, and stab you in the back at the very first opportunity.
There are, however, very rare occurrences where you come across genuinely nice and good people. Here’s one of them.
I met Scott Free… you know, I don’t really remember when… probably ’cause he wasn’t an idiot. I just remember him always being around. Anyways, Scott is a solid guy with a good ear for music and the skills to put that music together in a way that makes sense.
Here’s his ‘official‘ bio to tell the full story:
“For a decade now Scott Free has always taken the road less traveled. A DJ who finds himself ahead of the curve when it comes to shifts in the sounds of the genre, Scott has always been a DJs DJ. Largely inspired by long time Toronto top dog, DJ Sniper of Vinyl Syndicate, Scott makes it a point to go a different route then the usual fare, ensuring that a broad spectrum of sounds are being played. Not only is he a well respected DJ in Toronto’s drum & bass scene he is also one of its hardest workers.
Now approaching its seven year anniversary, Soul In Motion is one of Toronto’s premier promotion companies. For the first five years of Soul in Motion Scott and Mr. Brown provided an outlet for the scene’s upcoming talent to show off their skills and with the addition of DJ Spinz, the last two years have seen that mentality stretch internationally as SIM has become synonymous with breaking new artists making not only their Toronto debut but also their First Canadian appearance. Artists such as: DJ Zinc, Brookes Brothers, Futurebound, Danny Byrd, Makoto, Sigma, Saburuko, Atlantic Connection & Ewun have all touched down for Soul In Motion.
This year, Scott with the help of Sike-1, started Ritual: a promotion company looking to bring in heavier acts from across the globe; their first 2 events have featured Donny from Barcode and Raiden from Offkey Music and with a third event on the way and a new member, DJ Britz, the future looks bright for this project as well.
And to round out an already busy schedule, Scott has joined DCS905 Radio as one of its resident DJs and Hosts bolstering the already strong line up of Dubcomm’s Saturday night FM standard. Ten years in with no signs of slowing down it appears that Scott Free’s mark on this scene is far from realized.”
So why am I putting together this overly sappy post? Scott has put together a mix that I absolutely love. If we were back in the day and I got this on cassette I’d have worn out the tape already and would need a new copy.
So, I’m gonna pass it on to the peeps. CHECK OUT THIS MIX! If you don’t, I’ll never speak to you again… even though I probably don’t speak to you now…
