Pure Phunk began in 2000 as the brainchild of Toronto breaks DJ D-Monic. The goal of Pure Phunk was to raise the quality level in local breaks events. Pure Phunk moved quickly to raise the profile of breakbeat culture in Toronto. In the first 18 months Pure Phunk produced a staggering 30 events and broke attendance records for breaks parties. Records that are still held to this day.

Pure Phunk has hosted the Toronto debut performances for some of the biggest names in breakbeat. Artists like Krafty Kuts, Baby Anne, Soul Of Man, Freddy Fresh, Skool of Thought, Splitloop, Jay Cunning, Kelly Reverb and more, all while fostering Toronto’s growing local DJ and production talent.

In 10 years, the focus of Pure Phunk has shifted a few times. We have seen a record label, booking agency, and numerous more parties take place in a wide variety of venues around the city. In the last few years, Pure Phunk has served as consultants and host for an assortment of clubs and event companies. Some of those clients include The Guvernment Entertainment Complex, System Soundbar, Destiny Productions, Empire Productions, and more.
