The Rub's History Of Hip Hop
Big Up These Dudes. Seriously.
Who is ‘The Rub’?
“The Rub is an institution in Brooklyn. What started in 2002 as a classics and hip-hop party held on the first Saturday of every month at Southpaw became a movement.
As a crew and separately, DJ Ayres, DJ Eleven and Cosmo Baker have released over 50 mix cds, 10 records, won the 2006 Scion Mix contest, and appeared on MTV Mixtape Mondays, in The New York Times, Spin, Vice, XXL, The Fader, Urb (Next 100), NY Press (Best Party in NY), Village Voice (Best Party in Brooklyn), Entertainment Weekly and countless other magazines and websites. The boys have also played in over 50 cities on five continents, both as headliners as well as support for acts such as Bun-B, A-Trak, Too $hort, The Chemical Brothers, Ghostface, Redman, and many others. Like the party, The Rub radio program is an unparalleled mix of hip hop, disco, 80s, reggae, funk, house and everything in between.”
These guys have compiled what is, quite possibly, the greatest DJ mix series ever. They’ve given their fans a lesson on the REAL history of hip-hop broken down year by year… ALL THE WAY BACK TO 1979!! That’s right kiddies! Hip Hop was around when your parents were kids too!
Check out these REDONKULOUS mixes. (Personal fav’s: 1989, 1990, 1991, 1993, 1996)
